First step is buying your OWN domain. At least one but you can have a lot of fun when you purchase multiple domains!
Why buy a domain? Simple – You should ALWAYS purchase your own domain so you always have full control over your websites, your real estate marketing, your branding and everything that comes along with this.
How to choose a domain? This is probably the hardest part… deciding what domain to purchase and use. Here are some of my thoughts on this.
Always buy your firstlastname.com (even if you don’t use it, many times people will do search for your name first so buy this, maybe even buy a couple versions if you can, especially if you have a commonly misspelled last name (like me – Holliday – my name isn’t available but I would buy HeatherHolliday and HeatherHoliday.com).
Keep it short and memorable. Your domain should be short and easy for someone to remember. You will be putting these on all of your marketing including your business cards so the shorter it is, the larger print you can use on a small business card.
Stay away from Tradmarked names. If you are going to use a trademarked name, be sure you look up and follow the rules associated with doing this (realtor, remax, other franchise name). There is nothing worse than advertising a domain and having it on all your social, signs, advertising only to get a cease and desist letter and having to rebrand yourself! If you do buy those domains, that is fine – just don’t use it as your main advertising.
Buy multiple domains. If you are looking to have landing pages on your website for farming neighborhoods, cities, etc. Get multiple domains that are cohesive with your marketing and branding so when you are farming that area you can use that domain on the print marketing.
Do I buy .com, .net, .org, .realestate? I would advise to always buy .com’s since that is what people automatically think of for websites. .orgs are for non-profits.
Think of your Branding. Your social accounts, your user names, the #hashtags you can use in your posts. Ideally you would want all of your business social to match your domain name so here are some ideas to get your brain going on deciding what domain will work for you.
HeatherMOVES321 (areacode – but easily purchase multiple domains for your farming areas)
DiscoverHomesinBrevard (County / city / neighborhood)
This is your business so at minimum you should always have at least one domain that you have full control over. Do not have a website company or your office purchase this for you. You purchase it so you have control of it. You are worth the $15/yr to control your business and marketing! I personally use godaddy.com, they are super simple to use and have always had great customer support.
Now that booj has the saved search feature we can really pimp out our community, city, subdivision pages! You can create as many searches you want!! One thing I have noticed is with inventory so low, you may want to keep the searches more broad than not because you will have an odd space with no listings if you do not have any listings in a certain area. So for now, we are sticking to cities and larger subdivisions which will allow us to create multiple searches on one page!
What we don’t have listed below is local content and photos or videos! Go ahead and add a carousel or image + text with information, photos and links to your favorite places around town!!! Add that right under the header! Videos are a perfect way to show off your communities and your knowledge about them as well!! And bonus is when people are watching your videos, they are staying on your site longer which helps with your Google Authority!!
Make sure to name all of your images with a short description of what it is versus the name of the photo where you purchased or downloaded from. Make sure to never just “google” an image and use! Check out our blog with websites on royalty free images you can use for your website.
Add a Title & Description to every page
This helps search engines as well as consumers decide if this is the site they want to visit. When you do a search. The Title is the BOLD Blue Hyper link, the description is the short narrative under this. Try to keep this under 160 characters.
Add Local Content and useful information
Add Content that is Valuable and Local 46% of google searches are seeking local information. And 88% of Consumers who do a local search on their smartphone visit or call within a day. Make sure you have your Google My Business Page set up and are utilizing it! Great local information for REALTORS – Relocation information and links, School Information, local events (St. Patrick’s Day, Christmas Parades, 4th of July Events, Fairs, Home Shows). Check out this Local SEO checklist.
Share your content onto social media channels and DON’T forget Pinterest & YouTube! Enhance those pins & youtube descriptions and make sure they link back to the page on your website!
Don’t set it and forget it.
Make sure to update and enhance your site frequently. Don’t set it and forget it. I use my site as a support tool for my business. I use my most asked questions and turn them into blogs. Not only does this add content to my site and keep it relevant but it ends up being a huge time saver for me because as I get the same questions, I can easily send over the link with the blog, tutorial, video, etc that lives on my website! No matter what your business is, you can do the same!
When we are designing your website, we are logging directly into your booj portal and not going in thru maxcntr. We do not go thru your Account information as this is not part of the booj website process. Your Bio on your booj site is pulling directly from your maxcntr profile. To update this information, log into remax.net, click apps and select the Blue “My Account” Tile, then click “Edit my Profile”. The phone number that displays on the top dropdown is your “Direct” Number so make sure you have that option filled out. While you are in there, make sure your Bio is updated, add your website and social links and your most updated HI RES photo!! Make sure your social accounts are listed as well as your “Agent Website – Click Make Primary” so this appears on your main remax.com agent profile as well.
#2 – Who is Joe?
If you google yourself + RE/MAX, your remax.com profile will display. Most of the time you will see testimonies on this profile. These are pulling over from the manual testimonies on your published booj site. Some sites had some default Testimonies from an agent named “Joe” – it seems an actual agent had their user name set up as remax so these pulled over by default. You can easily go to your booj website dashboard and use the dropdown to get to your manual testimonies and delete those testimonies (better yet, copy and paste a few in this area so you have reviews that pop up on your remax.com profile! 🙂
#3 – How do I get my custom mobile app?
The mobile app link is in your menu bar on your booj website. Just add /mobile-apps at the end of your url. Make sure to link to your email signature and I would add a QR code to your business card to download your mobile app and maybe listing flyers, mailers, etc! There are many free QR code generators, I use https://app.qr-code-generator.com/ and pay for it so I can customize the look, color & add logos.
#4 – How do I connect my own domain?
You have your OWN domain – GREAT! We ALWAYS recommend everyone having your on domain that you have full control over! When your website needs change, you are able to have FULL control over where this gets pointed and believe me, from a marketing stand point, you want to have a domain that you won’t have to change on all of your marketing every time something changes! We article with step by step instructions for those of you who have their domain with godaddy! Read the article here!
Rearranging “blocks” on any page is as easy as dragging and dropping! Looking to have your Bio above everything? No problem! To edit, go to the page, then you will see the “blocks” on far left and the preview on the right side. Drag and drop the blocks and watch the preview change! TIP: Once you make this change, it may take 30 minutes for you to see it on your LIVE site!
#6 – How can I edit pages on my website?
Click on dropdown for Website, go to pages and click edit. This will open up the pages and blocks that are on this page.
#7 – Why isn’t my facebook feed showing up on the social block?
Go to the Social Block and make sure the full url’s are in the links
Make sure you are connecting a business page, personal feeds will not work.
Make sure you do not have visibility restrictions on in your business page. Go to settings, make sure you do not have restrictions for Countries or age.
#8 – Do we have Lead Capture or Forced Registration?
Yes! The default settings is “relaxed” meaning people can use your site to casually search and look at properties without logging in, however, you can set up your site for forced registration after X amount of listings viewed to capture leads! Go to you booj tile from remax.net, click on the website dropdown and go to settings. Choose “restricted” and select how many listings someone can view before they are required to set up an account which will send you the lead’s information!
TIP: Make sure if you set up forced registration you have a follow up plan in place for maximum conversion results!
#9 – I don’t have many listings, how do I display more listings on the “featured listing block”?
The featured listing block is the block that will display YOUR listings! This block will display 6 listings and with inventory being so low, you may not have 6 listings to display. Good news is we can display the office, team or brand listings to fill in those other spots so it will never be blank! You also have options on displaying by “newest, highest price, etc”!
Go to your booj dashboard and click on the Website dropdown and choose Settings!
#10 – What is SEO
Each page in booj allows you to go into “Page Details” to edit this information. Go ahead and do a search in Google for an area, scroll down the results until you see the non Paid results. These are organic results meaning this website did not have to pay in order to show up in a search.
You have the option in each page of booj to add this information. Tip: I use a google doc to add what I want for each page and will replace the keywords (community, city, etc). This makes it much easier as you are building pages.
Page Title Tag – The top Blue Linked Title in the search result

TIP: If you currently have your domain forwarded or have other nameservers, you will need to clear this data out and wait a few minutes before updating. Worst case, contact support where you have your domain and let then know you need to update your DNS settings for your domain and most will have you set up in a jiffy!!!
